Little Thoughts on Love

Beachgoers stroll the sand as the sun sets on a beach in Malibu, CA.

At the beginning of this year, I told myself that I wanted to write at least one blog post a month. Just a fun goal I made to combine my loves of film photography and writing.

But lately I’ve been feeling exhausted. Because blogging is also my day job, it can easily feel less like a creative outlet and more like another thing to do. Don’t get me wrong, I still love writing and practice it daily in the form of journaling. But polished writing…edited writing…that’s the stuff that feels harder to access.

But the other day I wrote something that I just simply had to put out into the world. So for today’s post there’s no story, no planned out dialog. Just a few thoughts on love.

love puzzles me

on one hand, it has a universal meaning

on another, it’s scope cannot be defined or even understood

some say love is a feeling

others say it’s an action

some say it’s a choice

others still that we do not choose who we love

love takes different forms

arrives with different intensities

and can linger long after something is gone

it’s a word that encompasses a host of concepts

and is tangled with many meanings

yet always simplified to the same four letters

l-o-v-e

i still don’t know what to think of love

except that maybe

with all its forms and definitions

love has 8 billion meanings

And, because it’s basically summertime (aka my favorite time of year), here are a few beach day film photos from Malibu, CA.

Here’s to experiencing more nights like this one!
